Closing the 13th Amendment Loophole

The Brian Lehrer Show | Mar 1, 2021

The Greene Space, the non-profit advocacy group Worth Rises, have launched a new series about the business side of the prison industry, everything from prison labor to companies who contract with prisons to provide healthcare, food and other services. Who profits when people get put away?

This week we talk with Bianca Tylek, Worth Rises’s executive director, about programs that require incarcerated people to work for little or no pay, and with Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley about his Abolition Amendment which would seek to close the "slavery loophole" in the 13th amendment.
