Coleman Williams at Roots n' Ruckus at Jalopy Theatre
June 1. 8:30PM. No cover, but please tip the bands

Coleman Williams sometimes refers to himself with the Roman numeral IV. It’s a wry acknowledgement of his family history, because even though his first name ain’t Hank, Coleman Williams is the son of Hank Williams III. That, of course makes him the grandson of Hank Williams Jr and the great-grandson of the legendary Hank Williams. Wrestling with his legacy as the latest generation in one of the most famous families in American music is what this song, called “Son of Sin,” is all about. In it, Williams sings “I’m just another old son that’s been/Passed like a bottle to praise my kin.” Coleman Williams, the fourth generation country musician, plays June 1 as part of the Roots & Ruckus series at Jalopy in Brooklyn. His forthcoming record, Southern Circus, is due out in mid-June.
