#3728: With Composer Jon Opstad

Hear music by London-based composer Jon Opstad, who has worked in film, dance, and television. His music runs the gamut from entirely acoustic (orchestral scores) to entirely electronic (such as the analogue-synthesizer-driven score for the Maisie Williams TV film, “Cyberbully”), but often occupies the territory in-between. Opstad has also scored the series, “Black Mirror,” including the “White Christmas” episode, and “White Bear.” For this New Sounds, listen to music from his dance works, “Ignis,” which was nominated for a 2014 British Composer Awards in the Stage Works and “Echoes,” which was part of the 2014 City of London Festival. In his electro-acoustic “Ignis,” prepared piano and analogue synthesizers combine with solo violin, while “Echoes” combines beat-driven electronics with solo cello. Plus, listen to a preview of Opstad’s forthcoming record, “In A Different Light,” due out late in 2015.
