How to Buy a Home Appliance

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

Note: The original tape has the announcer's introduction, and some silence before the program begins. The beginning of the program is cut off.

This program focuses on the safety and features of home appliances. And some tips, like how to gently clean Teflon-coated pans and how to check appliance power ratings.

The program ends with a consumer price check of food prices in the neighborhoods of Bushwick and Canarsie. 1/2lb of butter and margarine were significantly higher in Bushwick compared with Canarsie. The report also checks prices for peas, grade A eggs, sirloin steak, and pork chops.

In Canarsie, cola and milk have good prices (really low for milk in New York City), but the price of baby food was a little high. In short, there was a greater range of prices in Bushwick than Canarsie.
