The Costs of Higher Ed Part III: The Labor Problem

For final installment of our series, The Costs of Higher Ed, Columbia Ph.D. candidate Tania Bhattacharyya and Sean M. Kennedy, a Ph.D. candidate in English at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, discuss the ongoing efforts to organize graduate student labor as well as adjunct professors. They’ll discuss why they believe teaching as a graduate student should be considered labor instead of an educational experience, the history of organizing labor in higher education in New York, and how the current organizing efforts at their respective universities are going. We’ll also take calls from listeners about their experiences as adjunct professors and TAs.
