Alisa Roth, former reporter at Marketplace, a Soros justice fellow and the author of Insane: America's Criminal Treatment of Mental Illness (Basic Books, 2018), reports on the nationwide problem of the criminalization of mental illness and the strain it puts on the justice system, and the cost to the individuals not getting proper treatment.
