Dayna Stephens Quartet at the Village Vanguard, Feb. 19-24
Tickets: $35. Sets nightly at 8:30 and 10:30 pm.

Sax player Dayna Stephens has become known for his understated, singing tone on various saxes and more recently on the EWI, the electronic wind instrument. For years Stephens was tethered to the New York scene because a rare kidney disease kept him from being able to tour more widely. But in 2015 an aunt donated a kidney, and Stephens, now free from pain and dialysis, began touring again. He also wrote an album called Gratitude. Dayna Stephens and his quartet open a run at the Village Vanguard Tuesday night, Feb. 19 and play there through Sunday, Feb. 24.
