Long Island College Hospital ER and Clinic Deal Collapses
WNYC News | Sep 19, 2014
A deal to turn Brooklyn's Long Island College Hospital into a freestanding emergency room and outpatient clinics has fallen apart.
NYU Langone Medical Center is withdrawing from the deal to run LICH, saying a lawsuit between the former operators and the nurses union would impede the process of choosing its own nurses.
The New York Nurses Association had challenged NYU's takeover plan, arguing it violated a court agreement to keep the workforce unionized. NYU said it never made a commitment to organized labor.
The withdrawal leaves the sale of the Cobble Hill property in limbo and reignites concerns over whether the site will continue to offer healthcare.
