It’s hard to imagine New Orleans without brass bands, but in the mid 1970s, that sound had really fallen out of favor. Then came the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, a group of kids – teenagers – who injected the sounds of funk into the old Crescent City jazz sound and spurred the revival of that great old tradition. Now, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band are the senior statesmen of what is a thriving music scene, but they can still bop and strut with the best of the younger bands. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band plays at The Blue Note Thursday-Sunday, Nov. 11-14.
