Dirty Dozen Brass Band at SOPAC, Feb. 22
Tickets: $28-42. Show at 8 pm.

About 40 years ago, a bunch of kids in New Orleans got together to form a band. They all liked funk, but the group they were in a traditional style New Orleans brass band. Well, it didn’t stay traditional for long. When the Dirty Dozen Brass Band started playing widely, the purists howled. Then they stopped howling and started dancing along with everyone else. Forty years later, the Dirty Dozen are musical ambassadors and sort of elder statesmen for the New Orleans music scene. And people are still dancing to them. Dirty Dozen Brass Band plays Friday night, Feb. 22, at SOPAC, the South Orange Performing Arts Center in New Jersey, with special guest Cha Wa.
