The Wake Of An Undocumented Chinese Immigrant

The Leonard Lopate Show | May 2, 2017

Lisa Ko joins us to discuss her novel, The Leavers: A Novel. It tells the story of Deming Guo, whose life changes when his mother, an undocumented Chinese immigrant named Polly, disappears one day after leaving her work at a Bronx nail salon. Deming is adopted by an American couple, his name is changed to Daniel Wilkinson and he’s moved to a small town upstate. The story is told from the shifting perspectives of Daniel and Polly.

Lisa Ko will appear on May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at PEN World Voices (Lower East Side Tenement Museum: 103 Orchard St., at Delancey St.), and on May 9 at 7:30 p.m. at Greenlight (632 Flatbush Ave., at Fenimore).
