Echosmith: Indie Pop Is All In The Family
If you were to look at the Instagram accounts of indie rock and emo pop band, Echosmith, you'd find selfies with Jimmy Fallon, some favorite records (The Police, Black Keys, Kenny Rogers), a lot of black hats, and, for some reason, a noticeable number of monkeys. Echosmith's heavy social media presence demonstrates the traction and fanbase the four Los Angeles siblings have gained since the band's formation in 2009. To call the members "digital natives" would be understating the case; their ages span the gamut of teens -- Singer Sydney Sierota is 17, guitarist/vocalist Jamie Sierota is 21, bassist/vocalist Noah Sierota,18, and drummer Graham Sierota, 15.
Their youthful appeal and ear for earworms is working; Echosmith's most popular single "Cool Kids" has over 80 million plays on Spotify and more than 15 million views on YouTube -- and was remixed by Portland electronic artist, RAC. The group has opened for Neon Trees, electronica-emo sweetheart Owl City and just announced a U.K. tour in the wake of its latest five-song release, Acoustic Dreams.
