Cuban jazz pianist Elio Villafranca is based here in New York, and has played in bands both small and large. He’s played with jazz luminaries like Chick Corea and Paquito D’Rivera and teaches at Temple University and Juilliard. Villafranca also leads a trio – the Afro-Caribbean trio, as he calls it, which weaves together his classical training, his jazz experience, and his roots in the Afro-Cuban tradition. Elio Villafranca and his Afro-Caribbean Trio play a free show tonight at the Harlem Stage as part of Carnegie Hall Citywide.
