Emily Wells is a violinist and songwriter whose albums have featured looped and layered strings; but her new song, “David’s Got A Problem,” features a gently tolling piano. Made during the pandemic, it’s part of an upcoming album that deals with an earlier epidemic – the AIDS crisis. The David of the title is the NY artist and activist David Wojnarowicz, who was considered controversial, in part, for calling out government inaction at a time when people didn’t particularly want to hear it, and who died of AIDS in 1992.
