
Facebook Throws Out the Rule Book
Fresh off of the controversy surrounding allegations of bias in its trending news section, Facebook found itself back in the spotlight recently, this time for censoring a historic Vietnam War photo. To many, this was yet another instance of the site exercising editorial influence over its content, thereby proving that the social media behemoth is more of a subjective 'publisher' and less of a neutral 'platform' than it claims to be. Bob speaks with University of Virginia Media Studies professor Siva Vaidyanathan, who believes that the line between platforms and publishers is blurrier than we think, and that, regardless of which it is, Facebook has never managed content with total neutrality.
