Faten Kanaan was born in Germany to a family from various parts of the Near East. Now she’s based in New York, where she’s about to release a new album called Afterpoem. It’s a collection of works for piano and/or electronic keyboards, inspired by Baroque music and minimalism. And Kanaan will be playing some of them in a New Sounds Live event on Friday at National Sawdust. Jerome Ellis plays some of his music for sax, dulcimer, piano and electronics, to open the show.   

This concert is a co-presentation with WNYC’s New Sounds, hosted by John Schaefer, and will be recorded for broadcast on a future episode of the show.
