Kennedy Odede is from Kibera, the largest slum in Africa, and Jessica Posner is from Denver, Colorado. After growing up in poverty, Kennedy started a youth empowerment group called Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO). In 2007, Posner spent a semester abroad in Kenya working with SHOFCO. In Find Me Unafraid: Love, Loss, and Hope in an African Slum, the couple shares their unconventional love story, which sparked a successful movement to transform the lives of vulnerable girls and the urban poor.
