In Florida, the state’s politicians are beginning to assess the destruction left in the wake of Hurricane Irma, for both the short and long term.

Florida has the most people in harm's way of climate change — more than six million Floridians are susceptible to rising sea levels, and there is a severe risk of property damage.

But of Florida’s three top Republican leaders, which includes Governor Rick Scott, only one of them acknowledges that human activities contribute to climate change.

Mayor Tomás Regalado, a Republican who has been mayor of Miami since 2009, says it's time for his Republican colleagues in Tallahassee and Washington to get serious about climate change.
