Forest and Hunt

The NYPR Archive Collections | Jan 1, 2000

On this episode of Concerts Plus, host Robert Sherman and guests explore the themes of the hunt and the forest in a program of live music and conversation. Martin Bookspan hosts the intermission feature.

This program was broadcast live before a studio audience in the WQXR Concert Theater.

Note: This recording contains an additional thirty minutes of performances and conversation which were never broadcast.

From host Robert Sherman's notes:

It was George Bernard Shaw (or somebody equally witty) who described fox-hunting as "the unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible." and we are not about to disagree. Musically, however, the field and forest, hounds and hunt have inspired composers to some of their most exciting and effectively descriptive music. Tally Ho, then, as we ride off into the tonal sunset with Mozart, Vivaldi and the rest.
