Former President Clinton Gives Shoutout to Candidate Vying for Rangel's Seat

WNYC News | Apr 10, 2016

Former President Bill Clinton gave a big boost to a congressional candidate while campaigning for his wife in the Democratic presidential primary.

The former President visited three of Harlem's historic churches on Sunday with an entourage led by retiring Congressman Charles Rangel and Assemblyman Keith Wright.

Wright is one of the seven candidates in the Democratic congressional primary hoping to succeed the 23-term congressman.

As Clinton praised Rangel's tenure bringing federal money and tax credits back to Harlem, he also slipped in a not-so-subtle plug saying, “That's what Keith Wright wants to do, he wants to keep doing that work.”

A spokesman for the former president said Clinton has not formally endorsed anyone yet in the District 13 congressional primary.

After next week's presidential primary on April 19, the congressional primary comes two months later on Tuesday June 28th.
