The singer and bassist Ganavya was born here, but she grew up in southern India, and her own music is a deeply personal take on South Indian classical singing and the sounds of so-called “spiritual jazz,” a style associated with John and Alice Coltrane, whose music she covers on her upcoming album. In addition to her own music, Ganavya has also worked with Esperanza Spalding, covered George Gershwin, and played with electronic producer Floating Points. Ganavya performs at National Sawdust on Oct. 2 and Oct.3. The Oct. 3 show will be a New Sounds Live co-presentation.
