Ghost Train Orchestra Plays Moondog at Roulette
Nov. 18. 8PM. $30-$40.
The Ghost Train Orchestra has a new album called Songs and Symphoniques: The Music Of Moondog, devoted to the strange and colorful works of the 20th century American composer who called himself Moondog. Others called him the Viking of Sixth Avenue, because he would stand out on the street in full Viking regalia, selling his tapes and pamphlets. Moondog's sound was a curious mix of minimalism, big band jazz, and echoes of American folk music. NYC’s Ghost Train Orchestra has reimagined the work of Moondog into a large-scale production, and the record release show is on Nov. 18 at Roulette.
There's also an entire New Sounds episode that featured music by Moondog:Â
