How an 8-Year-Old Girl Became Queen of The Crows
In the animal kingdom, we frequently celebrate the intelligence of mammals like dolphins and elephants. But in fact, mammals hardly hold the monopoly on intellect.
Consider, for example, the crow. Did you know that a crow can decipher cause and effect relationships? Crows have been found to solve complex puzzles and make tools, and, just as Aesop explained in his fable, thirsty crows have been observed raising the water levels in containers by adding stones.
But that's not all. Sometimes crows form close bonds with humans. And they show their affection by bringing gifts.
Katy Sewall, a senior producer and host of The Bittersweet Life podcast, recently met an 8-year-old girl named Gabi Mann who's received dozens of shiny, sparkly gifts from crows over the past four years. She shared what she learned about this extraordinary girl and her crow friends with The Takeaway.
