New Jersey songwriter Anthony D’Amato knows how a turn of phrase can pack a punch. He spent his college years studying the great rock poets – Springsteen, Dylan, Cohen – with one of the great poet-poets, Paul Muldoon. But sometimes the potency of a song has as much to do with timing as anything. Take the boxing-themed song, “Golden Gloves." In a post-Muhammad Ali world, the lyric about getting knocked down and getting up again hits just a little harder. Anthony D’Amato celebrates the release of his new record “Cold Snap” tonight at Mercury Lounge.
