Gig Alert: Boubacar Traoré – "Dounia Tabolo" (Weekly Music Roundup)

The Malian guitarist Boubacar Traoré has been writing songs that combine the American blues with the sounds of traditional West Africa music since the early 1960s. In fact, he was considered one of the first major national figures in Mali when the country gained independence from France. But in the West, he was largely unknown and didn’t sign a record deal until 1990. Now 75 but still active, Traoré is about to release a new album recorded in New Orleans with some American blues musicians. "Dounia Tabolo," is the title track, and we’re premiering the song as part of our Weekly Music Roundup.
