Gig Alert: Donny McCaslin Quartet

ARTIST: Donny McCaslin
GIG: Village Vanguard, Wednesday through Sunday

With David Bowie’s passing last week, tickets for his off-Broadway musical “Lazarus” have gone from hard-to-get to impossible. But you still have a chance to catch some late-period Bowie sounds performed live, courtesy of jazz sax player Donny McCaslin. He and his bandmates served as Bowie’s backup on new record Blackstar (currently the #1 album in the country), and now their profile has never been higher — despite being scene stalwarts for years. They’re holding down a residency at Village Vanguard until Sunday.
