Violinist and songwriter Jenny Scheinman moves fluidly between the worlds of jazz and rock. She’s played with Lou Reed, Bill Frisell, Norah Jones and many more. Her own band, is called Mischief and Mayhem, as her songs are often full of mischievous turns and bursts of improvisational mayhem. Scheinman occasionally refers to musical heroes, as in this song called "A Ride With Polly Jean" – a reference to the dark British singer PJ Harvey. Jenny Scheinman and her Mischief and Mayhem quartet, featuring guitarist Nels Cline and drummer Jim Black, are playing at the Jazz Standard through Sunday.
