Music was an early calling for Latin jazz’s Jerry González. Born in New York City in 1949, he grew up surrounded by Harlem’s music scene and a father who sang during Mambo’s golden era. Since then, the six-time Grammy nominated trumpeter/conguero has worked with jazz giants like Dizzy Gillespie, Jaco Pastorius, and Latin jazz's Tito Puento, but it’s with his afro-caribbean jazz group–The Fort Apache Band–that he’s innovated and molded today's Latin jazz.
