EVENT: Louis Andriessen's De Materie
GIG: Until March 30 at Park Avenue Armory

All this week, New York’s Park Avenue Armory has been home to a choir, a large instrumental ensemble, dancers, zeppelins, and 100 sheep.  They’re all part of the monumental music/theater piece, De Materie, or "Matter" by the hugely influential Dutch composer Louis Andriessen.  It’s about matter and spirit, so it’s kind of about everything.  Even sheep.
This excerpt, "De Stijl," draws inspiration from the paintings of the 20th century Dutch master Piet Mondrian:

John Schaefer hosts a panel discussion prior to tonight’s show at 6pm; the human and sheep performers take the vast stage at 8.
