GIG: Friday night at The Bell House
The New York band Luna was one of the great – if little-known – forebears of what is now called indie rock. Their shaggy, slacker-y shuffle recalled the Velvet Underground, but the sung-whispered lyrics didn’t rock the boat at the coffee shop. As a final stamp of legitimacy, the great New York guitarist Tom Verlaine joined the band on its classic 1995 song “23 Minutes in Brussels.” Luna played its last show ten years ago, but it returns to Brooklyn’s Bell House tonight.
