The Lebanese alternative rock band called Mashrou Leila has courted both crowds and controversy in the Near East. Their concerts are often massive affairs, and why not? – their songs are driving and catchy. But they’re also about otherwise taboo subjects like gun violence, sexuality, and gay rights. This song, "Maghawir", is about a nightclub shooting, and was inspired by two different incidents that took place in Beirut. Mashrou Leila headline tomorrow evening’s Celebrate Brooklyn concert at Prospect Park.
