The veteran vibraphonist Roy Ayers is sometimes called the Godfather of Neo-Soul. Ayers himself grows out of the jazz and funk traditions, but he’s worked with Mary J Blige and Erykah Badu, and his knack for rhythmic grooves has made him a favorite artist for hip hop producers to sample. Ayers performs a live jazz-funk set tonight at BRIC House in Brooklyn.
