Shemekia Copeland is a formidable blues singer, and has been since she was a teenager, traveling around the country opening for her dad, the Texas blues guitarist Johnny Copeland. She’s since opened for the Rolling Stones, and sung with Mick Jagger for Barack and Michelle Obama at the White House. Shemekia was actually born in Harlem, so even though she sings the blues, she does so with a bit of New York attitude and soul. Shemekia Copeland and her  is at Iridium tonight and tomorrow.
