Earlier this month, Google ousted Timnit Gebru, an ethicist researching how artificial intelligence can perpetuate systemic biases. Gebru's ouster, which was met with forceful backlash from her team, came after an internal review of a study she did that spotlighted injustices in one of Google's key products, text autocomplete.
