Gov. Cuomo's Progressive Agenda? 'Dead on Arrival'

National Democrats weren't the only ones to lose big on election night. Here in New York, Republicans took control of the state senate, defeating three incumbent Democrats.

This could be a problem for Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who trumpeted an ambitious, progressive agenda at his victory speech Tuesday night which includes raising the minimum wage, as well as passing the DREAM Act and the Women’s Equality Act.

“I think those are all dead on arrival now,” said Ken Lovett, the Albany Bureau Chief for the New York Daily News.

Lovett said Democrats were hurt because progressives didn’t show up to the polls.

“Cuomo received one million fewer votes than he did four years ago when he ran against Carl Paladino,” Lovett said.

Turnout was 34.3 percent, the lowest it’s been since at least 1970, Lovett said.
