After finding herself saddled with lots of student debt from her undergraduate degree, Kate Beaton decided to attempt to pay them off by working in the oil sands of Alberta, Canada. Beaton recounts this time in her life in her new graphic memoir, Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands.
