The Growth in Complex and Opaque Healthcare Charges

The Leonard Lopate Show | Feb 19, 2015

The Affordable Care Act has ushered in complex new health insurance products, featuring large out-of-pocket co-insurance fees, high deductibles and narrow provider networks. Some experts say the new policies have left many Americans scrambling to track expenses from a multitude of sources — separate deductibles, different drug payments, and high co-pays. The new fees are so confusing and unsupportable that some people avoid seeing doctors. Elisabeth Rosenthal explores these issues in her story in The New York Times Sunday Review, “Insured, but Not Covered.”
