Grupo Fantasma is a Grammy winning Latin funk band out of Austin, TX. They’re probably best known for playing with Prince, but their list of collaborators is actually quite long, and includes two other bands that are kind of Fantasma spinoffs. There’s the straightahead funk band called Brownout, and the group called Money Chicha, which revisits the psychedelic cumbia music of Peru and Colombia in the 1970s. Put all those sounds – and players - together and you get Grupo Fantasma. 

The Latin funk and Cumbia band from Austin, Grupo Fantasma, plays at Brooklyn Bowl Wednesday night, April 10, along with the Afropop, soukous and soul band, Mokoomba, from Zimbabwe.
