What have you read or seen over the past year (Book, play, film, etc...) that moved or surprised you?

         The film Ida was the most exquisite thing I've seen in a couple of years. And Twelfth Night on Broadway was my favorite Shakespeare production ever. It was proof positive that William was a big old queen.

What are you listening to right now?

         Phox, a delightfully sophisticated pop ensemble from Wisconsin. The lead vocalist/songwriter Monica is a new star

What's the last great book you read?

         Pale Fire by Nabokov. Nonfiction essays on The Fan Who Knew Too Much: Aretha Franklin, the Rise of the Soap Opera, Children of the Gospel Church and other Meditations by Anthony Heilbut

What's one thing you're a fan of that people might not expect?

         Barry Manilow

What's your comfort food?
