Head of Correction Officers Union Steps Down After Arrest

WNYC News | Jun 9, 2016

Norman Seabrook has been removed as president of the Correction Officers' Benevolent Association following his arrest Wednesday.

Vice president Elias Husamudeen will take over.

Seabrook is accused of receiving kickbacks in exchange for steering million of dollars from the union's pension fund to an investment company called Platinum Partners.

He was freed Wednesday on a $250,000 bond. His lawyer says he'll fight the charges.

“We are saddened and concerned by these allegations, but would point out that Mr. Seabrook is innocent of these charges until proven otherwise and we look forward to him having his day in court," Husamudeen said in a statement.

Seabrook had led the union for 21 years.
