Hillary and the Trolls

On the Media | Apr 29, 2016

Last week, the Super Pac “Correct the Record” revealed a new digital task force called “Barrier Breakers." Citing lessons learned from run-ins with the so-called "Bernie Bros," along with "swarms" of anonymous attackers, the announcement states that the task force will push back against "intense cyber-bullying and sexist attacks" against Hillary Clinton. In other words, social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, and Instagram may soon be flooded by legions of paid pro-Hillary commenters to combat the anti-Clintonites. And thanks to an FEC loophole, Correct the Record is allowed to coordinate with the Clinton campaign to do this. Bob talks to Libby Watson, a staff writer at the Sunlight Foundation, about the failures of the FEC and the mysterious coordination between the two.
