A holiday to celebrate with your sweetheart by the sea: Gullentine's Day

WNYC News | Feb 10, 2024

Valentine's Day is just around the corner. But this year, instead of flowers, cards and candy, why not celebrate by showing your love for one of the least appreciated of all birds - the seagull?

The Feminist Bird Club of New York City has renamed the holiday 'Gullentine's Day' and they're hosting a gull-watching event at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn at 10am on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Martha Harbison and Ryan Mandelbaum will be leading the tour. They join Weekend Edition host David Furst to explain the origins of Gullentine's Day. It started as a joke, but quickly became a popular event.
