'It's Pretty Much Died': How The Anti-Establishment Took Over the GOP

Last week, The Takeaway looked at the state of the Democratic Party, and the split that emerged in the 2016 primary between Hillary Clinton supporters and Bernie Sanders supporters. The Democrats are working to try to patch that back together, even internally inside the Democratic National Committee. 

But while Republicans are in power, and are even on the verge of passing a major tax bill that at least some in the party want, most Republicans could never have imagined President Donald Trump as the figurehead of the party not too long ago.

The anti-establishment sentiment that helped elect Trump is still very much alive, and as part of our look at the future of the Republican Party, The Takeaway wanted to examine that sentiment.

Joe Walsh is a former congressman from Illinois between 2011 and 2013, and is now radio host of The Joe Walsh Program. To Walsh and his followers, the GOP is not in a position of power, but instead an empty vessel.
