Mikhail Gorbachev has a complicated legacy as the last leader of the Soviet Union. In his new book, Gorbachev: His Life and Times, William Taubman, Bertrand Snell Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Amherst College, looks at how he rose from humble beginnings, transformed diplomatic relations with the U.S and presided over the end of the Soviet Union in 1991.
