Major League Baseball spends more than $1.5 billion on pitchers every year, according to Yahoo baseball columnist Jeff Passan. In The Arm: Inside the Billion-Dollar Mystery of the Most Valuable Commodity in Sports, he examines how the pitching arm's susceptibility to injury is hurting players at every level of the game. He also investigates the increasing number of elbow injuries requiring the invasive, potentially career-ending Tommy John surgery.
