'Hear Together:' How NYC Families Cope With ICE Detention
New York City is a sanctuary city, but ICE arrests here increased significantly in the last year. Thousands of immigrants are now in local detention facilities awaiting deportation hearings. Jessica Rofé, an Immigrant Defense Fellow at the NYU Immigrant Rights Clinic, radio journalist Sylvia Ryerson and Janice Hoseine, (anti)Detention Coordinator of the New Sanctuary Coalition of NYC, discuss what this means for New Yorkers with loved ones in ICE detention.
Ryerson also discusses a project of the NYU Immigrant Rights Clinic, “Hear Together: Audio Postcards to Immigrant Detention,” which airs audio postcards from family members on radio stations that reach ICE detention centers.
This segment is guest hosted by Jonathan Capehart.
