Imagine a World Without Mosquitoes

As malaria and the Zika virus continue to be an ongoing global public health threat, Jerry Adler, contributor to Smithsonian Magazine, investigates the new gene-editing technology which will give scientists the ability to completely obliterate mosquitoes. In “A World Without Mosquitoes,” published in the June issue of Smithsonian Magazine, he looks at what might happen if mosquitoes became extinct, and how the using technology to deliberately destroy a species would affect our world.
