The Incredible Shrinking Trump Organization
For many years Crain's New York Business ranked the Trump Organization near the top of its list of the largest privately-held companies in New York, close to Bloomberg LP and Hearst.
But this year, President Trump's family business fell from the number three spot to number 40 on the list.
What happened?
Crain's got much better data on the Trump Organization’s revenues. Last year, the Trump Organization claimed $9.5 billion in sales. This year, public filings by President Trump suggest revenues less than a tenth that amount, $600 million to $700 million, according to Crain’s.
Reporter Aaron Elstein admits he feels played. “It was obviously important to Donald to have his company at the top of the list and I don't know why he felt that way but the numbers that he presented are just flagrantly untrue,” Elstein said.
In the new pecking order, the Trump Organization looks slightly larger than KIND bars, and a little smaller than Modell's.
