An Inside Look at Life in Solitary Confinement

The Leonard Lopate Show | Feb 3, 2017

Director Kristi Jacobson joins us to discuss her new film “Solitary: Inside Red Onion State Prison.” Jacobson gained unrestricted access to film inside a supermax prison in Virginia, consisting entirely of solitary confinement cells, for an entire year. There are over 40 supermax facilities across the country largely unknown to most Americans. The film profiles both the inmates and prison workers and shows how the prison has affected their lives.

"Solitary: Inside Red Onion State Prison" premieres on February 6th at 10:00pm EST on HBO. For more information, click here.
