Isabel Allende talks about her latest novel, The Japanese Lover. The book takes place in 1939 as Poland falls under the shadow of the Nazis. Alma Belasco's parents send her away to live with an aunt and uncle in San Francisco. There, she encounters Ichimei Fukuda, the Japanese gardener’s son, and they fall in love just as Ichimei is forcibly relocated to an internment camp.
